Gymtimidation and why it doesn’t exist at Instinct…

The gym can seem like an intimidating place – here’s how Instinct is different…

Gymtimidation – the intense fear or feeling of intimidation you get when walking into – or even thinking about – walking into a gym.

We want to say straight off – you are not alone. Many people can be very overwhelmed and intimidated when stepping into the gym because it can mean stepping far outside your comfort zone. Even the mention of the word gym for a lot of people can strike fear into their very core.

Here at Instinct, we totally understand why! Even for our coaches, walking into a typical gym environment full of posers, grunting, people throwing weights around and staring, can make them feel uneasy.

However, it goes without saying that your gym experience doesn’t have to be like this.

In fact, it’s one of the many reasons we run the gym the way we do with our Group Classes, Semi-Private Personal Training sessions and Open Gym.

We’re unapologetically different.

We are here to help ‘normal’ people just like you (who don’t like or have never stepped foot in the gym) to overcome those first-time nerves and embark on your own fitness journey.

Here’s some of the thoughts you may have been having…

“People will judge me”

Many clients when they first come on board with us can feel insecure about the way they look when they are working out and feel like they are being judged for it.

That’s why our coaching team is different… no oversized egos or unwelcoming vibes!

Our coaching team pride themselves on knowing everyone’s name, the size of your smiles and their genuine desire to help you get the most from your gym experience. The community at Instinct is something you don’t get at other gyms.

“I don’t know what I’m doing!”

Have you ever joined a gym to only feel like you just don’t know what you are doing? You sign up and you are just left to your own devices, you aimlessly wander from one piece of kit to the next and you end up hiding away on the cross trainer or going for a walk on the treadmill.

Eventually you just stop going altogether because you aren’t seeing any progress. Don’t be embarrassed, many of our clients were once in the same boat as you.

Here at Instinct, we endeavour to solve that problem. Every session at Instinct is led by a qualified coach, sessions also follow a structured training format so no aimlessly wandering around.

On top of that… our Kickstart programme starts with an in depth 1-2-1 consultation and personal training session. We gain a deep understanding of where you are currently at, your goals, your preferences, injury history, your current ability and much more to help you get the best out of your training…

By meeting you where you are currently at, our coaches can personalise every session by scaling movements to your ability.

Our unique Semi-Private Personal Training environment also means you’ll get the same level of attention you’d receive in a 1-2-1 PT session, but at a fraction of the cost and with the major added benefit of training amongst a group of like minded people. We help you get results in an atmosphere you’ll love.

“Everyone’s really fit compared to me”

At Instinct our community sets us apart and the variety of classes we offer means there is something for everyone. Our coaches vary each session so you constantly feel like your doing something new.

Our members love what we do so much and the motivation it brings to them to keep turning up even on the days they don’t really feel like it. On top of this, our strong community helps you feel like you are coming to the gym for a social not a workout.

We have fun whilst getting the work done and you know what they say about time, when you are having fun…

This is a key factor in why so many of our members stay with us for so long (an average of 24 months, in fact! Some even up to 6+ years!) big shout out to some of our longest standing clients!

Our mission is to help people live the best lives they can. To help them feel fit and strong at any age.

If that sounds like something you are missing from your training right now, get in contact with us via or pop in next time you find yourself wandering Tarporley High Street.
