Tell us a little about yourself
I worked in advertising for 30 years, in Manchester. The last 10 years I managed a agency with my husband. That was pretty all-consuming, but we had a dream of designing and building our own house. When a plot came up in Willington in 2015 we knew that was where we wanted to be. Fast forward 10 years and we are living in a beautiful part of the world in a house that we love every inch of. It was a once in a life time experience, part Grand Designs, part Cowboy Builders, and absolutely worth it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
A long distance walking trail is probably my ultimate happy place. There is something wonderful about waking up in the morning knowing that the only thing you have to do is put one foot in front of the other, and your only decision is what to have for dinner that evening.
Covid introduced me to open water swimming – which I still do, year round, no wetsuit. It’s is undoubtedly the most joyful and empowering experience I’ve ever had and has lead to enduring friendships.

Why did you decide to work at Instinct and what do you enjoy about it?
I’ve been coming to Instinct for yoga for a couple of years. The first time I visited I remember thinking what a nice place it would be to work, friendly and upbeat. Two years later, here I am and I wasn’t wrong.

What is your favourite Instinct class?
I’ve just started the Kickstart programme and am working my way through the classes. Although I’ve never really been a cyclist, I’m really enjoying Elevate.

What is your favourite exercise/move?
Definitely pilates. It’s so subtle, but so powerful. The core strength it gives you improves every other form of exercise.

What is your least favourite exercise/move?
Burpees. Invented by the makers of indigestion remedies.

Tell us 3 random facts about yourself
– I’m left handed, but play all sports right-handedly.
– I own one of only five Portuguese Sheepdogs in the UK.
– I once understudied for the role of Cinderella in a washing machine commercial.

Quote to live by…
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. ‘Desiderata’
