Tell us a little bit about you…

I’ve been active for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the Welsh countryside near the Brecon Beacons, helping out on the family farm and exploring the great outdoors. Whether I was running around the fields or cycling over hills for hours just for fun, movement became my happy place.

My love for fitness led me to study Sports and Exercise Science at university while earning my Personal Training qualification. I worked in the University of Chester gym, interned with elite sports teams like the Warrington Wolves and British Handball, and never looked back. Fast-forward 20 years and I’ve worn many hats – from PT, Class Instructor and Gym Manager. Now, I run my own fitness business in Chester, where I live with my amazing wife and three incredible kids.

Why did you become a personal trainer?

Let’s just say a 9-5 in a suit was never going to cut it. I wanted to build a career around something I genuinely loved – helping people feel good through movement. After uni, I had a choice: train elite athletes or coach everyday people. I chose the latter. Why? Because I love working with real people, from all walks of life, and watching them fall in love with exercise – especially when they never thought they could.

Also, let’s be honest, elite athletes don’t always say thank you. Everyday heroes do.

What do you love about being a personal trainer?

It’s the transformation – not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I love helping people break down the walls they’ve built around fitness. Some come in nervous, doubting themselves, unsure where to begin. And then? They leave empowered, smiling, and excited for the next session. That’s magic.

What is your favourite exercise?

It used to be front squats or weighted dips – pure strength classics. But after picking up an injury earlier this year, I’ve been focusing more on functional movement and fell in love with cable work. My top pick right now? Cable woodchops. They’re sneaky good.

What is your least favourite exercise?

Easy. Burpees. They’re against my religion.

What drives you?

Helping people create lasting change. Watching fitness go from being a chore to something that’s simply part of who they are – that’s what fuels me. That, and porridge. Lots and lots of porridge.

A quote to live by…

“When you’re in a dark place and you feel like you’ve been buried, you’ve actually been planted — so you can grow.”

Life throws challenges at all of us, but it’s not about what happens – it’s about how we respond. We can choose to stay stuck, or we can choose to rise.

What is your favourite treat?

Flapjack. It’s porridge in party form. I’ll take ten!
